Y’all, I cannot wait to share all the magic from McKenzie’s downtown Charleston session! This shoot was one of those sessions that just sticks with you—in the best way possible. Between the jaw-dropping boutique dresses, the sweetest mom-and-daughter duo, and our star prop, the adorable Pink Figgy, this whole session felt like a picture perfect southern dream!

McKenzie came all the way from Jasper County High School in Georgia for her session; she found me on Instagram (love when the algorithm works in our favor!). The moment I saw her message pop up in my DMs, I just had a good feeling about her session—and let me tell you, it completely lived up to the hype.

First Impressions & That Mother Daughter Energy

From the very first conversation, I could tell McKenzie and her mom were going to be a fun pair. You can just feel when someone is excited, invested, and ready to go all in on their senior photo experience—and that was exactly the vibe they brought. I always say that senior sessions are just as much for the moms as they are for the seniors, and McKenzie’s mom totally got the memo.

McKenzie’s mom owns a boutique in Georgia called Island Tan and Boutique, and most of McKenzie’s looks came straight from her collection. The main featured floral gown she wore was from Girligirl Boutique and it was a SHOWSTOPPER. Every outfit was unique, flattering, and just the right blend of trendy and timeless. Her wardrobe for the day consisted of flowy florals, fun textures, ruffles, and colors that popped beautifully against the Charleston backdrops. I felt like I was shooting editorial content for a fashion magazine—but McKenzie’s added personal flair made it even more special!

The Setting: Downtown Charleston with the Pink Figgy

Charleston senior sessions are always something special. There’s just nowhere else quite like it—the pastel walls, cobblestone streets, iconic wrought-iron gates, and dreamy Spanish moss cascading from the trees. It’s pure magic, and every corner of the city offers something new.

Add the Pink Figgy into the mix and suddenly it’s a whole new level of charm. For anyone who hasn’t heard of it, the Pink Figgy is a darling vintage Nissan Figaro that’s become a bit of a local celebrity here in Charleston. She’s got that soft blush paint, retro shape, and a personality all her own. I always tell my seniors that if you want your session to stand out and feel a little extra luxe, Figgy’s your girl.

We started McKenzie’s session at the Mills Hotel in downtown Charleston then headed to the Battery, where the water sparkles and the light hits just right. The weather could not have been more perfect—clear skies, a soft breeze, and that signature Charleston glow bouncing off the buildings. McKenzie stepped out in her first outfit—a true girly girl’s dress with romantic pastel flowers and flowy sleeves—and I was immediately obsessed. The way the fabric moved when she walked, paired with that relaxed joy on her face… she was glowing.

The Vibe: Editorial Meets Southern Sweetheart

One of my favorite parts of this session was how we were able to capture all aspects of her style: both fun and carefree and polished and editorial. McKenzie was so comfortable in front of the camera—which makes my job such a joy. She’d laugh and twirl in one frame, then serve up a fierce look in the next. Her variety of looks and poses gave us a very well-rounded gallery. And can we talk about those eyes? The camera loved her and her sweet smile!

With each outfit change, her personality came through in new ways. A bold floral maxi with statement earrings gave off a playful, fashion-forward energy. A fitted blush midi dress paired with classic heels was pure Charleston elegance. And when we brought Figgy into the mix, it was like watching a vintage movie star step into frame.

McKenzie posed effortlessly by the car—leaning on the door, peeking out from the window, even sitting in the back seat with her bouquet of flowers. These weren’t just any florals—Firefly Weddings in Charleston put together the most gorgeous arrangement that tied everything together beautifully. Their floral design added the perfect touch to the session—romantic, whimsical, and totally Charleston. It’s little details like that that elevate a shoot and make it feel like a full experience, not just a photo session.

There were so many sweet in-between moments during this shoot that really stuck with me. Like when McKenzie’s mom adjusted the straps on her dress or fluffed her hair between takes. You could just see how proud she was, how much love was wrapped up in this experience for her baby girl. These moments are what make senior sessions so meaningful—it’s not just about the pictures, it’s about celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Another fave moment? At one point, McKenzie randomly did a little happy dance in the middle of a Charleston alley, and I couldn’t help but laugh with her.
