Sara & Gabe were married at the Weaverville United Methodist Church on June 6, 2015. This is how they met in Sara’s words.
“We met in youth group at North Asheville when we were in about 8th grade. He was good friends with the best man in our wedding, Luke, and I went to school with Luke so I had heard him talk about his friend, Gabe, a few times and I thought he sounded interesting. So when I started going to youth group I met Gabe and at the time he had a girlfriend, but I knew when I saw him that someday I wanted to date him. I did everything I could to flirt with him after he broke up with his girlfriend and finally when we were juniors in high school we started dating and have been together ever since. The night he proposed to me we went out to dinner to “celebrate the end of the semester” at P.F. Chang’s. I was a little suspicious about this, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up so I just went about it like a normal night. He proposed on December 16th so there were Christmas lights up everywhere and every year a family near my house has a huge light display that you can drive through. I hadn’t gone to see them yet so on the way home from eating I said ‘hey, we should go see the Christmas lights!’ but I had no idea Gabe had already planned to do that anyhow. We drive through the lights and get to the turn around at the end of the driveway and Gabe stopped the car and told me to get out. At this point I was really confused about what he was doing, but I got out of the car not even noticing the huge sign that Gabe had been working on for weeks had just came on with the words ‘Sara Will You Marry Me’ on it. Gabe had to point over to the sign and when I finally saw it he got down on one knee and my family, his mom and sister, Luke and my best friend Jill came out from behind the sign taking pictures and video taping. I was so surprised and I actually ended up saying ‘yes, duh!’ to him. It was so sweet. Christmas is my favorite time of the year and he had been planning this proposal since October to do it with Christmas lights.”
